| Route Notes | Highpoint at 6700m at summit ridge just above the Dome. Were in C3 3 days in very strong wind with blue sky, but wind and unconsolidated snow on the NW Ridge made them decide to abandon climb. Had surmounted the crevasse that had stopped the Australians by in providing a ladder out of 2 members and reached high point along eastern extension of the Dome. Payne fell 3m in fixed line between C1 and C2 when piton pulled out; broke some ribs. Worked well with Austrians and their Sherpas; had to refix rope because Australians pulled all of theirs out. |
