| Route Notes | BC on west side of ridge northwest of Annapurna III. Team attempted to ascend Gangapurna N Face, traverse Annapurna III NE Ridge and descend Annapurna III N Ridge. Neither summit reached and no traverse made. Expedition split into two teams and attacked both peaks simultaneously. Later abandoned Annapurna III attempt and concentrated on Gangapurna. Annapurna III team needed more fixed rope and rock climbing equipment than expedition could spare from needs for Gangapurna, which was first priority. Had intended place a C3 at 6400m. Also had problem of heavy snow plus difficult rock climbing just below C2 on steep section; falling stone in this area. 2000m fixed rope put in between C1 and C2. On 25th Sept more heavy snowfall. All difficult parts of climb finished. |
