Route Notes BC at normal site C1 at snowfield below the dome of Annapurna IV C2 at west of that Dome High point at NW Ridge. Ogulin Himalayan Expedition Annapurna II 2008 led by Darko Berjlak - 31 Oct 2008 The expedition planned to leave Kathmandu on 27 September by bus to Besisahar and trek to BC via the Marshyangdi River, but they were delayed by having to wait for one member, Carin, a very busy businessman, who arrived in Nepal only on 2 October. So they flew by helicopter to BC on the 3rd and arrived three days earlier than expected. Carin immediately developed cerebral edema was was on oxygen all night on 4/5 October. He left on the 5th by helicopter. The expedition encountered numerous problems on the mountain: falling stones, big "waves" of windblown soft snow, deep snow between C2 and C3, snow avalanches, big seracs above C2 which they had to traverse around, deep crevasses above C3, strong wind gusting up to 150 km/hr which blew climbers off their feet. In addition, a cat tore open their food cache at 5400m. The expedition's high point of 7200m was reached by Ferencak and Pepevnik on 15 October. It was high on the NW Ridge of Annapurna IV, which mountain they had to cross to get to Annapurna II. The two climbers returned to BC that day and all members were in BC then also. The team made a new effort to get higher on the mountain. They wanted to make a new C3, and on the 21 they took gear for the new camp to C2. But the wind drove back their attempts on the 22nd and 23rd to get to the new site; they managed only short distances from C2 on both days. They gave up. The only member with a health problem besides Carin with altitude sickness was Pepevnik, whose fingers were frostnipped. Salopek was hit on his left shoulder by a falling stone, but he was not seriously injured.
Accidents Carin's altitude sickness; Pepevnik's frostnipped finger
