Route Notes High point at C1. 27 Oct to BC. 30 Oct to C1 3 members. 31 Oct 2 Corniglions to BC. 1st Lombard down to BC. Corniglions to BC on 31st because he was sick and Lombard came down next day after BC staff told him Corniglions had left. 3 Nov 98 - Trekking agent Sarbendra after talking with Mrs. Corniglion in KTM: the 2 Corniglions came down from C1, leaving Lombard in camp because Mr. Corniglion had headache; they were to go to Thyangboche for 2-3 days rest and returned to climb. At BC he fainted at 6:00 pm on 31st, was unconscious 10-15 minutes, so they immediately set out from BC, he walking with help. His breathing became difficult and at 3:00 am of 1st Nov he died before they had reached Pangboche. Mrs. Corniglion came to KTM on 1st by helicopter with his body. [2 Nov 98 - Mrs. Corniglion by telephone said he died very quickly from altitude sickness on 1 Nov 98]. 3 Nov 98 - Italian Ama Dablam leader Bruno Pomati: Mr Corniglion went to C1 when he was very tired and next day down to BC; after 2-3 days went up again to C1 but had headache, not sleeping - took him 8 hours to reach C1.
