| Route Notes | High point at normal C3 site just before the Dablam. 3 men pitched camp at 6350m 14 Oct but never slept there and down to sleep in C1 and BC 15th. Mesias and Vallejo stayed on with Swiss after 18th Oct, hoping to go to top and still catch flight from KTM on 23rd. Leiva left BC 6 Oct to go home; had planned only 8 days for climbing, based on experience in Ecuador but not possible in Nepal; had carried rope to 5600m but never reached C1. Etienne got stomach trouble that prevented a summit attempt by him and others with him did not go up because route not yet open, snow dangerous and hoped to try again. But same situation prevailed and these 3 did not try a second time. Kobler - 29 Oct 96: Mesias and Vallejo to summit on 19th with Kobler party. |
