| Route Notes | BC just north of Tsure Glacier at west end of ridge C1 at NW Ridge (ridge forming north side of West Face) High point on NW Ridge. Route attempted started at west end of ridge; sugar snow and ridge "no place to put rock piton so we just turned down." Tried to go up but made no real progress. C1 pitched by 5 people & slept in by Wood & Pemba Sherpa (Ghat) on 20th & tried to go higher on 21st. 4 members trekked (with fixed line) to deposit at 18,000 ft on 20th enroute for 5 to C1. Stopped & turned back thinking route too difficult route. All down to Dingboche on 21st. Wood strong climber, wanted to do alpine style climb from C1, but Pemba not experienced enough to do it and Wood accepted fact that he should not do it solo as no one could get up to help him if he got into trouble. |
