Route Notes BC just above other teams BC C1 after 1st part of rocks. 3rd Dec 3 members and Man Ram Tamang, old friend of Hubert started from C1 at 7 am and on top at 4 pm and slept in C1 at 9 pm in good weather but cold wind. 2nd attempt on 8th Dec by Hubert and other 3 members from C1 and stopped at 6600m; just before steep section because strong wind (ropes horizontal) and back to C1; just 50m before C1, Hubert hit by falling stones and arm broken. Now climb finished because the team guide out of action. Koreans couldn't climb: Sherpas pulled them up (Swiss said so too); careless about placing feet and knocked loose stones in area known to be dangerous for this, with 5-6 stones hitting Hubert, one big stone which hit his arm and broke (Hubert in quick reflex put his arm out to protect Ronvaux's head and this saved his life since not wearing helmet). This accident prevented Hubert and another member from attempting S Face, new route and probably not Dhaulagiri in 1993 as planned. Hubert had complained in Ministry of Tourism before climb that there were too many teams with Ama Dablam permits. 3 Dec Goethghebuer, Hubert, Richon and Man Ram Tamang started from C1 at 7:00 am and on top at 4:00 pm and slept in C1 at 9:00 pm in good weather but cold wind (-35 degree at top). 2nd attempt on 8 Dec by Hubert and Mahieu, Massart and Ronvaux from C1 and stopped at 6600m just before steep section because strong wind (ropes horizontal) and back to C1; just 50m before C1, Hubert hit by falling stones and arm broken. Now climb finished because the team's guide out of action.
