Route Notes BC west of on Schneider map at south end of SW Ridge ABC at base of sharp sectors of S Ridge, where broad ridge ends C2 above a buttress on narrow slope of S Ridge C3 where ridge because all snow and ice with mushrooms C4 inside a mushroom on ridge C5 on top of Dablam on normal SW Ridge to across rock face. 7th Oct put BC at normal site for SW Ridge route, then moved camp higher and closer to their own route. On 1st Nov reached summit after some of Todd's expedition: Pawlowski and 4 clients and before Todd; descended SW Ridge, Vran very tired so so in tent at C3 and other 3 to empty American tents in C2. All in just BC site at 4600m. Scariest part was descending ropes of normal route, some of which were old and came out. Fixed ropes immediately above C1 to C3 almost entire distance. Descended SW Ridge because no ropes fixed above C3 and traverse from Dablam to C3 would have been difficult. Went back up S Ridge to clear route of ropes (tent had taken up with them as they climbed). Ridge runs south from summit, east of S Face and standard-route's SW Ridge, says Pete Athans (26 May 1994), who was on standard route in autumn 1992).
