Route Notes BC at base of East Face on a lake. French team started climbing SW Ridge route but had to switch to S Face route (the route listed on their permit) since Americans were already climbing SW Ridge route. French soon quit because they were unprepared for the more difficult route. As made C2 learned another expedition arrived for same route so went to BC and discovered Americans had permit for SW Ridge while French actually had S Face but were unprepared for face: had not the equipment for it. Was lot of hard ice on face and it is very steep and dangerous stonefall, so expedition finished. Wanted to climb Island Peak, but after 1 day at its BC bad weather caused abandonment of this.
