Route Notes Route was almost exactly same as Frost route, but difficult hard rotten ice instead of the snow frost found to be on easy walk. Letter from Tanya Lee - 23 April 1982 We were 100% successful. As I write you before Shari, Lucy Stacy and Susan summited on 20 April. We had a quite snowstorm that eve. But the next day it was clear and so group 2 Sue Giller, Anne, Jini, and the Heidi moved up to Camp 3. On 22 April, they left C3 at 5 am and four gained the summit at approx 2:45 pm. We are presently clearing the mountain and expect to depart base camp 30 April. Letter from Tanya Lee Shari, Lucy, Susan Havens and Stacy reached the summit on 20th April 1982 at approx 3:45 pm. They left from C3 which they established on 18th April. The other 1/2 of our climbing team, Sue Giller, Anne, Jini and Heidi, will move to Camp 3 tomorrow as then first summit group descends to C2 to wait on support. On 22 April, the second group will leave C3 for the summit, hopefully arriving by early afternoon. Suffice it to say, the weather is going downhill - more clouds early afternoon precip, etc. at base and Camp 1. But spirits are soaring and health is terrible. Letter from Tanya Lee - 15 April 1982 Things are just like clock work here - as with Sue Griller in charge there is not much room for stuff. She runs an organised efficient operation. C2 was occupied by Susan Havens, Stacy Allison and Shari Kearney on 11 April. From that point, they began work on the route to C3 and as of today - are probably there right now (yesterday they were with two rope lengths of the camp site). Plans are for C3 to be occupied 17 April with the first group going to the summit 18 April; 2nd Group 20 April. As it looks now - Shari, Stacey, Susan Haven and Lucy will compose the first group and Heidi, Jini, Sue and Anne, will be the 2nd group. Letter from Susan Havens - April 4, 1982 Today Stacey Allison and Lucy Smith hiked up to C1 at 18,700 ft to mark the route and check the camp and tomorrow - we began making carries. The snow line has been steadily rising and we can get to C1 without crossing snow (now). The route above here looks in good shape, with not too much snow over the rock. We are all in good spirits with only minor health problems bothering some of us.
