Route Notes Ama Dablam speed ascent. Summit on 22/10 at 9:30 am. Base camp nearby usual BC at 4620m, this season there were two base camps because of the crowds. Started at 4 am. At 6:45 am at C2. There he changed from approach shoes to mountain boots. In total 5h 42m to summit. Good weather, clear night. On the summit light wind but good views. On the top maybe for 3 minutes. Back down to BC at 4620m at 1:30 pm. Had to wait for about 20 minutes at Yellow Tower because of traffic jams. Two days before climbed to C2 once to check the route, but never slept at C1 or C2. Used fixed ropes on ascent and descent. Funded by Japanese Alpine Club Tokai Section. From Explorersweb: On October 22, Toshiyuki Yamada almost bagged the Fastest Known Time on Ama Dablam. The Japanese citizen and Canadian resident climbed the normal Southwest Ridge route in 5 hours 42 minutes. His total time Base Camp-summit-Base Camp was 9 hours, 32 minutes.
