Route Notes The two-member team [Richards and Emmett] went first to Lobuche East, and climbed for one hour above their high camp in their summit bid. Emmett now had a bad cough and was too weak to continue. They descended to Dingboche hoping that Emmett would recover, but his health did not improve and he abandoned his plan to climb Ama Dablam. On 6 November, Emmett left for Lukla while Richards went to Ama Dablam BC with IMG's climbing sirdar, Ang Pasang. "I had planned to work with Freddy (Botur, an independent climber) on the Ama Dablam climb," Richards explained. "I went to the mountain in support of his attempt." Richard went to C1 on 8 November in support of Botur and stayed there while Botur climbed to C2 the next day. But now Botur "was quite sick on the evening of the 9th."
