Route Notes Four members and one Sherpa, Baumann, Guggenberger, Sippel, Wolfrum and Tashi Lhakpa, made the expedition's first summit push. They set out for the top from C2 on 27 October. Baumann had to turn back at 6400m: he was not fit and simply could not go on. Tashi Lhakpa went back to C2 with him. The other three members continued to the summit, which they reached between 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm, and returned to C2 at 3:30 pm. Guggenberger went on down to C1 with Baumann; they were there at 6:30 pm. All except Sippel and Tashi Lhakpa descended to BC the next day; Sippel and Tashi Lhakpa waited in C2 for the second summit party. The second party was composed of Buescher, Prummer and Schmidt, joined by Sippel and Tashi Lhakpa. They left C2 at 3:00 am. Sippel had to drop out at 6700m because his feet were too cold; he waited for the others in C2. The three members and Sherpa went on to the summit between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. Buescher, Schmidt and Sippel descended to C1 for the night, while Prummer, while Tashi Lhakpa went to BC. Riedl had been in the second summit group in C2 on the 27th, but he now had a throat infection and was very slow. He did not go above C2 but instead descended to BC on the 28th. Fixed rope: between C2 and mushroom ridge. Sherpa: Tashi Lhakpa, 18/11/85, Mathilow, Walung, Makalu-Barun, Everest X4, Cho Oyu X1
Accidents Riedl's throat infection only
