Route Notes ABC to cache gear, slept in one night only High point at Grey Tower. Team Vorarlberg Ama Dablam Expedition 2009, led by Stefan Bitriol - 7 May 2009 Bartl and Bitriol made the team's bid for the summit on 3 May. They had pitched only two camps above BC, with their highest camp C2, quite low, at 6000m. They knew the fixed ropes ended at the grey tower at 6200m. So they set out for the top from their high camp in the dark at 10:30 pm. They reached to Grey Tower at 5:30 am on the 4th. At about 5:00 am, clouds had started to accumulate, there was a strong wind blowing, and Bartl was now very cold (his feet were especially cold). So they turned around at 5:30 am, returned to C2, where they stayed three hours and warmed themselves, then descended to BC, where the arrived at 2:00 pm. Now there was no time left for Bartl and Wohlrab to make another summit attempt, and Bitriol did not want to climb alone. Their expedition was over. Wohlrab had reached C1, developed a bad headache, returned to BC and stayed there.
