| Route Notes | Will Cross Ama Dablam Expedition - 30 Nov 2008 The day after they had made C1, on 20 November Cross and Nawang Tenzing "aimed for" C3, but "it was pretty crowded," so they just "touched" C2 and descended to BC that day. Three days later, on the 23rd, they went up to C1, and on the 24th set out for C2. But Cross now had a chest infection which gave him a bad cough and difficulty breathing, so they turned around at about 5900m and returned to BC. The climb was over. On his way up to C2 on the 20th, Cross looked at the Dablam through his telescope, and "it looked badly fractured." Nevertheless they tried to get to the summit. Their plan was to go to C2, stay for a couple of hours while boiling water, leave the camp at 3:00 am when it was still cold, take a stove with them, but no tent, and go for the summit. Sherpa: Nawang Tenzing, 1/2/60, Phortse, Everest X3, Lhotse X3 (now lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) |
