Route Notes ABC occupied only once (for acclimatization) High point at C2 site. Amical Alpin Ama Dablam Expedition, led by Dirk Groeger - 24 October 2008 After occupying C1 on 8 Oct, the team went down to BC on the 9th, then up to C1 on the 10th, and on the 11th Groeger, Weiss, Sona Dendu and Tshering Tashi went up to 6000m, the site for C2, and back to BC the same day. On the 14th, Groeger, Weiss and the two Sherpas returned to C1 and on the 15th to C2's site. There they saw that there was too much deep snow on the route above. The team had only four or five climbing days left in their program; there was more snow now in the areas of the lower camps, and it was very difficult to fix ropes securely under these circumstances. There was no chance to summit in the time that was left. Groeger decided to call off the climb. The four men went down to C1 that day, while the other eight remaining members came up from BC to C1. On the next day, the 16th, Groeger told the other members to go up to the site for C2 with Sona Dendu to see the situation for themselves. It was a good climb from C1 on solid rock, and in C1 you don't have the feeling that you're on the mountain. Most of them didn't actually reach 6000m and the whole team was back in BC that day. They left BC on the following day. One member left the team early: Meesen had a throat infection which was caused by an infection in the root of his tooth. He left BC on 11 Oct. There was a quarrel between Groeger and Diego Giovaninni, leader of an Italian team, who accused Groeger's Sherpas or members of stealing one of the Italians' tents and other items, while Groeger denied the charges. The outcome was that Groeger stopped speaking to Giovaninni, and the Italians removed their ropes. Fixed rope: 250m between C1 and C2 Sherpas: Sona Dendu, 5/10/60, Khumjung, Cho Oyu X2, Everest X5 Tshering Tashi (Sona Dendu's son), 7/12/85, Khumjung, Everest X2
