| Route Notes | BC at normal site High point near top of yellow tower. Well acclimatized by climbs of Lobuche East (to 5700m till deep snow stopped by Grom and Herschke on 17 Sept) and Island Peak (to summit on 21 Sept by all 5 members, Mingma Ongel and Kalden Sherpa). This team were the first to arrive at BC and were all alone on mountain; another team arrived as they were leaving. So they had to work hard to fix the route (spent more time shovelling snow than climbing). 26th and 27th were fixing days, 28th summit push, 29th to BC and 30th left mountain. They left quickly because weather was not improving, members were not strong climbers, they were having to do a lot of shovelling and Golden was being urged to come home to the US financial crisis. Sherpas: Mingma Ongel, 27/3/78, Phortse, Everest X4 Kalden Sherpa, 21 yrs old, Pangboche, no 8000ers Panuru Sherpa, 22/5/68, Phortse, Everest X6, Cho Oyu X2 |
