Route Notes Swiss-Italian Ama Dablam led by Franco Demarchi - 7 December 2007 The team first went to acclimatize on Mera Peak, which they summited on 19 November. (On his return from load carrying to Mera for the team, their porter, Chandra Kumar Rai, 27, from Gudel, Solu, died from unknown causes at 3400m when he was three days from Mera La. The team didn't know about this until later). The party arrived at Ama Dablam BC on 24 November and moved quickly up the mountain. They made no ABC and skipped C1, on the 27th stayed in C2 in a tent belonging to the Jagged Globe expedition led by Stephen Bell by previous arrangement, skipped C3, and sent two members to the summit on 28th. The summit pair, Brically and Zanini, left C2 at 6:00 am, were on the top at 12:20 pm and were back in BC at 6:30 pm that evening. On the following day, the 29th, Demarchi left C2 alone at 6:00 am, reached the summit at 12:20 pm descended to C1 at 5:00 pm, and slept there in a small tent deposited at the site in advance. He did not go down to BC that evening because he was tired and alone. He was in BC at 10:00 am on the 30th. Gianini went to 6000m on the 28th but turned back and descended to BC. Olivier and Opreni did the same thing on the 29th. All three had bad headaches, apparently the first symptoms of mild high altitude sickness.
