Route Notes "Snow incredibly deep," knee-deep coming down from C2 on 2 May to BC. Weather marginal to 1 May and then 6-8 inches new snow on 1 May. On 2 May they were due to go to C3 and Sherpas had gone there on 1 May and found Koreans ropes under 6 inches in hard blue ice; fixed ropes and down. On 4 May Sherpas again up from C2, again now ropes under 6 inches snow, hard blue ice and powder snow on top of ice, unclimbable. No one slept above C2, but 2 Sherpas to 6300m on 1st May, their highest point. When Sherpas went up to C2 on 9 May and found it crushed under snow and ropes under blue ice, members gave up: Cahill thought too dangerous to continue. McGilveray and Thomas bored by mountain and went trekking; Kiriakakis sick; and Strand having trouble with wife & wanted to go home. Sherpas: Nima Sherpa, 18/3/80 (5/12/2036), Bishinga, Okhaldhunga, no 8000ers Ang Chera Sherpa, 22/4/76 (10/1/2033), Patle, Okhaldhunga, no 8000ers
Accidents Kiriakakis mild pulmonary edema at C1 and down to BC
