| Route Notes | 2006/07 Korean Ama Dablam Winter Expedition - 24 Jan 2006 The former site for C3 was largely destroyed by the the avalanche of 13 Nov 2006 which took the lives of six climbers. There is still a small space for a camp, but the site is still subject to continous avalanching. This team therefore did not establish a C3, but made their summit attempts from C2. The first summit party made an attempt on 6 January. They were Choi Jin-Chul, Kim Yong-Su, Lee Teak-Gun, Won Young-Jin, Woo Sung-Ho, Pasang Namgyal Sherpa, Tapche Bhote, and Mingmar Tamang. They made slow progress because the 13 November avalanche had taken with it the ropes fixed in the autumn; this party had to fix new ropes as they climbed. They fixed 400m of rope starting from 6300m, just below C3. By the time they reached 6600m it was too late to go to the summit. They turned back and returned to C2. The second summit party made their summit bid on 15 January. They were Lee, Won, Woo and the same three Sherpas. They reached 6300m and from there were driven back by very strong wind and a large avalanche from the Ama Dablam that swept only 20 meters away from them. They retreated to C2, and the was climb over. Two members went no higher than ABC: Choi Sang-Bo was a non-climbing journalist, and the leader, Kim Bo-Yeol also stayed in ABC. All other members went up to C1 but no higher. There was not much space at C2, so they waited in C1 for the first and second team to go to the top and then descend, thus making room for the others to occupy C2 after them. Sherpas: Pasang Namgyal, 25/11/72 (10/8/2029), Khumjung, Everest 21/5/03, Yalung Kang 5/5/04 Mingmar Tamang, 23/9/64 (8/6/2021), Pirangding, Kerung, Solu Tapche/Tapchen Bhote, 24/11/72 (9/8/2021), Hatiya, Makalu-Barun, Cho Oyu 13/5/03 |
