Route Notes British Ama Dablam - Autumn 2006 (leader Clive Roberts) All members did not move together; Williams came from Pumori, was already acclimatized and went up ahead of Gandy and Roberts. They moved as follows: Williams & Mingma Nuru Sherpa Gandy, Roberts & Phurbu Bhote 5 Nov - arrived BC 9 Nov - arrived BC 11 Nov - BC to C1 10 Nov - BC to C1 site to BC 12 Nov - C1 to C2 12 Nov - BC to C1 13 Nov - C2 to C3 13 Nov - Gandy & Phurbu Bhote to C2 14 Nov - Gandy to C3 accident site On the 13th Roberts turned around just below C2 because of a chest problem while Gandy and Phurba went to C2 and stayed there. At about 5:00 am on 14 November, a big avalanche struck C3 and carried Williams and Mingma Nuru down to their deaths. (There was a second avalanche in the morning and another on at 1:15 pm). Gandy, who was not hit by the avalanching, arrived at C3's site at 1:30 pm and found no trace of the camp or its inhabitants except a metal spoon and two sections of fixed rope that were no longer in place. He made a "cursory search," descended about 100m and sent a message to Roberts, who was in BC, about the devastation. He then went to C2 and stayed there that night in case anyone arrived; on 15th he went down to BC.
