| Route Notes | High point at 6200m at grey tower. Stoop and Steenmeijer left C2 at 5:20 am. Weather was perfect. Bad snow conditions when they got to grey tower. They decided that carrying on would be too dangerous as the rope was badly fixed and only partly fixed. As they thought that Canadian team (Peak Freaks) would fix rope from C2 to C3 they did not bring gear, so they could not do it in alpine style. They descended to C2, where they picked up 3 other members and then down to BC and arrived at 3:30 pm. All other members apart from De Waard, reached C2 but did not carry on as they could not do it alpine style. Riedstra, Moussault, Ernest, Joosen-Stegeman, Spriensma, Van Egten and Stegeman got to C2 on 18 Oct, but did not stay the night as they saw that it would be too difficult. They descended to BC. De Waard left BC at 10 Oct as his father, Hans De Waard, suffered a stroke whilst trekking in the Khumbu. De Waard met his father in Pheriche, from where they took a helicopter back to Kathmandu. Eric De Waard got to ABC (5500m) at 9 Oct, but then a porter came from Pheriche to BC to tell him about his father, so he left next day. Sherpa: Nima Tashi Sherpa, Pangboche, 4/4/60, Everest X7 |
