| Route Notes | BC at normal site High point at C2 site. On 11 Oct both members went up to C2 but did not sleep there because of Rackl's fall (he was leading Amical German team) at 30m below in descent from C2 when fixed rope broke (it was an old line and the only one there); he had gone up to see what gear needed for climb above. After this event, Mazur fixed entire route. Tyson and Larson rapelled down 140m to snow ledge where body stopped (head badly smashed and other bones broken), lowered body to length of rope available and then let body drop down east side where Sherpas could go around and reach it. Now no time left. They had gone to Ama Dablam for the pleasures of it after leading Cho Oyu expedition and had good time. |
