| Route Notes | 11 Oct headed for C2 but turned around when Robert Rackl (German expedition leader) fell to his death and slept that night in Henry Todd's BC and 12th down to Namche Bazar. 13th back to Pangboche, 14th to ABC 15th to C1, 16th to C3 and 17th to summit. Sjolseth left mountain with the Passeys on 12th and did not return to it because he was tired, didn't want to wait any more and perhaps "a bit shaken" when Rackl died. Email from Todd Passey to Elizabeth Hawley - 8 Nov 2003 1) We first arrived in Pangboche. I believe on the 8th of Oct. We never stayed in the normal base camp. 2) We stayed in Pangboche on the ninth because of the storm and went to ABC on the tenth. On the eleventh we headed for camp two and turned around when Robert fell. We returned to Henry Todd's base camp that night and went to Namche on the 12th. The thirteenth we returned to Pangboche. On the 13th we went to ABC. The 14th camp one. On the fifteenth we skipped camp two and went all the way to three. 3) Tom Sjolseth went with us to Henry Todd's base camp, stayed there while we went to Namche and met us in Pangboche on the thirteenth. Tom left for Kathmandu on the morning of the fourteenth and I believe arrived on the sixteenth. 4) We went to Pangboche on the 18th. Phakding on the 19th and Kathmandu on the 20th. We left Kathmandu on I believe the 22nd a Monday. |
