Route Notes BC at Mingbo C1 at 5800m at start of ridge C2 at 6000m right above yellow tower High point at SW Ridge. From C1 down to get resupplied and returned to C1 17 Apr. 18 Apr up from C1 taking the tent to C2. 19 Apr took tent to go up to C3; Joachim went down (not feeling well and problem with 3 people). Other 2 up early in morning, but weather very unstable with 3 hours good weather each day and then snowfall. Remaining members had to biv on ridge on 19 Apr and 20 Apr (especially on 1st day when electric storm). 2nd biv on mushroom ridge at about 6300m; left biv equipment there and tried for summit, but by noon only at 6450m (above normal C3); then a little snowfall and couldn't reach top before 5:00 pm, so without biv equipment decided to retreat for safety reasons. Had to down climb with difficulty and returned to C2 in dark (at 8:00 pm). 22 Apr continous snowfall and down to BC 23 Apr at 11:00 pm and climb finished. Next 4 days bad weather also; combination of snow cover and very loose rock. Did not use NZ team's fixed ropes. "Another problem" was members did not know each other; Jakobi organized the group and Pinger knew him by telephone only for 9 months. Pinger met Lenmerz 2 weeks before they came to Nepal. Dean Staples, NZ team leader, said 6 May Jakobi left mountain while other 2 members were still there and went for trek.
